Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo and representatives from The Builders Exchange of Rochester today announced a new Construction Career Day event that will help educate students on jobs available in the skilled trades. The event will be held on Tuesday, May 21st at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
“As part of our efforts to grow more jobs, Monroe County is committed to connecting residents with the tools they need to be successful in rewarding industries like the skilled trades,” said Dinolfo. “There are good-paying careers in the trades available right here, right now that are just waiting for the right people with the right skills. Construction Career Day will offer hundreds of students a chance to learn how they too can build a path to a great career and a bright future in the skilled trades.”
Construction Career Day will consist of a job-site tour at the new Nathaniel Building – located at the corner of South Ave and Court Street – as well as a panel discussion featuring industry professionals. Over 60 vendors from the construction industry will also be present to discuss career paths and educational programs in fields like construction, masonry, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, sheet metal working, and more. Free lunch is provided to all attendees.
“As with many industries, the construction industry is seeing a shortage of workers,” said Aaron Hilger, President of The Builder’s Exchange of Rochester. “It’s important we educate students and parents on the variety of jobs available in the construction industry. There is much more to construction than pounding a nail.”
The event is intended to help address the critical shortage of workers in the skilled trades by increasing awareness of these rewarding careers. To register, visit www.robex.com.
