Craftsmanship Nomination Criteria

Purpose of the Program: To recognize exceptional craftsmanship and the display of interest and ingenuity by building trades mechanics and workers to encourage the highest form of workmanship, quality, skill and integrity

Extent of the Program: Exceptional craftsmanship in the execution of work selected for award will be awarded to the individua/team. The employee, the architect/engineer, project owner and any general contractor will receive recognition in the presentation program

Who May Make nominations:

  • Contractors, architects, engineers and owners are all eligible to make nominations.
  • Nomination forms for identifying and describing the work will be made available on the ROBEX website
  • Nominations must be received by the Awards Committee by the date specified
  • All nominations to be made electronically

Those eligible for nominations:  Work performed by any employee(s) of a general contractor or subcontractor may be nominated for an award. Please note that nominations may be submitted only for work on projects which have been completed or substantially completed during the designated period. For the 2025 Craftsmanship Awards, the work must have been performed since January 2021 and substantially completed by the closing date of nominations.

Work Eligible:

  • Nominations are not restricted to work where craftsmanship is exhibited on the job
  • Nominations will be accepted for work where craftsmanship has been exhibited off the job, including custom work in the shop

Basis for Award:

  1. While neatness and accuracy are essential characteristics of good workmanship, work which is merely neat and accurate should not be nominated.
  2. For work involving finishing materials, special considerations will be given to the display of interest, ingenuity, imagination, and skill on the part of the craftsman (not the designer) which:
    1. Enhances the artistic merit of the basic design.
    2. Works out and solves in a commendable manner problems and details which are left to the discretion of the mechanic.
    3. Results in the execution in a commendable manner of work of exceptional difficulty.
    4. For structural work and mechanical work; layout and coordination work shown diagrammatical or by specification would be eligible where the execution indicates interest in the work and pride in workmanship.

Geographic Limits

      • Nominations will be accepted for work throughout Central & Western New York.
      • Exceptions may be made to consider projects outside this area.

Award Submission Process & Criteria

  •  Nominations must be submitted through the form on the ROBEX website.
  • Photos are required and should be submitted at the time of nomination and include appropriate captions and be labeled correctly.
  • Videos of the project will be accepted.
  • Please send large files via a file sharing service.

Method of Making the Awards

  • Nominations are turned over to the Awards Committee, who may visit the site, inspect the work and determine the Award-winning work.
  • There are no restrictions, either in number of Awards or in the trades represented by the Awards.
  • All determinations are solely in the hands of the Craftsmanship Awards Committee
  • Award recipients will be notified by the Awards Committee.
