JBX prepares the next generation of construction leaders through relationship and team building with like-minded up and coming industry leaders. JBX members share problems, develop solutions, and work collaboratively through educational and social programs that cultivate their natural talents and leadership potential. JBX’s calendar of events is designed to encourage JBX and Builders Exchange member interaction. Typical events include:

Executive Board Members

Brett Davis, Chairman

Rochester Colonial Mfg. Corp.

Brett Davis is the Business Development Manager at Rochester Colonial, with over two decades of experience in the construction industry specializing in doors, frames, hardware, and architectural solutions. He began his career as an architectural designer, bringing technical precision and creativity to commercial and residential projects. He then spent 11 years as a project manager, overseeing large-scale installations and ensuring the successful delivery of complex construction projects. For five years, Brett served as a branch manager in Northeast Pennsylvania in the doors, frames, and hardware industry, where he led teams, managed operations, and developed strong client relationships.

Brett holds a BA in Architectural Engineering from Alfred State and earned his MBA from Medaille University in 2010. Outside the office, he enjoys playing ice hockey as a goalie, spending time on the golf course, and cheering on the Buffalo Bills. Brett is also a passionate advocate for pet rescue and adoption through his business, Mafia Mutts, which supports local shelters, rescues, and other nonprofit organizations.

Jordan Bernstein, Vice Chairman
Brown & Brown

Jordan has been involved with the Junior Builders Exchange Board since 2021, VP since 2023.

Jordan joined Brown & Brown as a Property & Casualty Sales Executive in 2018 after working at Paychex and earning a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Fredonia. At Brown & Brown Jordan is responsible for all aspects of client service, insurance coverage placement and risk management consulting. His principal areas of expertise include development of risk management programs, analysis of client exposures and coordination of appropriate coverages, analysis and development of policy forms and contract review for acceptability and compliance.

Jordan’s community involvement includes serving on the Salvation Army Board of Directors and working with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Rochester’s Finest program.

He resides in the North Winton neighborhood with this wife and daughter.

Nick Schuler, Treasurer
Schuler-Haas Electric Corp.

Nick has been on the board for the Rochester JBX since October 2020, and has helped in coordinating a number of their service projects throughout the community.

As a 4th generation member of his family to be involved with Schuler-Haas Electric, Nick began his construction career in 2014 as a project manager and estimator. In 2016, he transitioned to the financial side of the business where he served as corporate controller, before being named CFO in February 2022. In his role, Nick oversees all accounting and finance related functions, including long-term financial planning, analysis and reporting; payroll, taxes, and operations support. He is a graduate of St. John Fisher College with a degree in finance and accounting and has an MBA from the U of R Simon Business School. Outside of work, Nick is an avid golfer and die-hard Buffalo Bills fan. He currently resides in Henrietta with his wife, Joanna.

David Sumner, Executive Board Member
Upstate Roofing and Painting

David Sumner is the Vice President of Operations at Upstate Roofing & Painting LLC., where he brings a deep-rooted passion for craftsmanship and leadership to the commercial roofing industry. David’s journey with Upstate began in estimating/sales and project management, where he honed his expertise in delivering high-quality solutions and building lasting client relationships.

Before joining the company, he co-owned and operated a residential flooring installation business with his father—an experience that shaped his hands-on approach and entrepreneurial spirit. David also proudly served overseas in the U.S. Army, working in Headquarters within a tank battalion. His military service instilled in him a strong sense of discipline, leadership, and teamwork—qualities that continue to shape his professional life today.

He is actively involved in industry leadership, serving on the JBX Executive Board and participating in the Future Executives Institute through the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), a testament to his commitment to advancing the field and mentoring the next generation of professionals.

Outside of work, David enjoys spending time with his wife Kate and their dog Jane. He’s a devoted fan of the Buffalo Bills and Leeds United and finds inspiration in the arts.

Whether on the job site or at home, David brings energy, integrity, and a collaborative spirit to everything he does.

John Miller, Emeritus
O’Connell Electric Company

John has been involved with the Junior Builders Exchange Board since 2017.

John joined O’Connell Electric as the corporate communications and marketing manager in 2013 after serving on Active Duty in the Air Force and finishing his bachelor’s degree at Keuka College in Organizational Communication. He is currently a Master Sergeant in the NY Air National Guard where he serves as a Unit Training Manager.  John’s professional and community involvement include serving on the Mary Parkes Asthma Center Golf Tournament Planning Committee, Rochester Chamber Future Leadership Council, Board Member for the Victor Chamber of Commerce (now Ontario Chamber of Commerce), and Planning Committee Member for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Rochester’s Finest program.  In 2017, he received the award for top performer as a Rochester’s Finest Honoree.  John resides in the Village of Victor with his wife and their four children.
