Fiber Optic Lineman – Rochester, NY

Greenlight Networks is actively recruiting for a Fiber Optic Lineman to join our growing in-house construction team at our headquarters in Rochester, NY. This position is critical to supporting our mission statement, “Delivering the Best Internet Experience”, responsible for installing fiber optic cable, strand and associated hardwire that allows Greenlight to deliver New York State’s fastest internet service – providing our customers the ability the Freedom to Work, Play and Live without Limits.

Specific Job Functions Include:

  • Reading and maintaining prints, schematics, and diagrams
  • Taking and maintaining accurate field notes
  • Working to meet project timelines in a team environment
  • Maintaining materials and equipment to complete assigned work orders
  • Install and Repair fiber optic cable
  • Bury drops as needed
  • Place, relocate and remove fiber
  • Review project plans, specifications, and installation instructions to ensure project is build according to design specifications
  • Properly document work and follow company processes accordingly

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent teamwork ability
  • Ability to work in accordance with industry standards, follow company standards including instructions and specifications provided by engineering teammates while adhering to company safety standards
  • Reconcile all issued parts and materials on a daily basis to ensure accurate material usage counts
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs., frequent standing position, along with reaching out with arms. Occasional climb/balance/stoop/kneel crouch/crawl is required with communication
  • Ability to properly use all tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks-including Drills, Cable Cutters, Hammer Drill, Splicer, Cleaver, Lasher
  • A high standard of work ethics with an ability to perform all work in a neat and quality manner
  • Ability to adhere to safety guidelines and requirements including wearing all forms of PPE
  • Ability to work in adverse conditions including all weather conditions
  • Work aloft and in close spaces up to 30ft in ladder, or hand climb utility poles using gaffs; work in manholes
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel or crouch for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and carry 25 pounds consistently
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays and evenings
  • Valid NYS Driver License is required, and ability to pass pre-employment drug test and background screening
  • Ability to read a print and follow color coordinated routings
  • Safely operate and use bucket truck to complete daily construction assignments as needed
  • Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle: check fluids, clean and organize vehicle
  • OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety Training
  • CDL Class B with Air Brake Endorsement (preferred, not required).


Education and Experience

  • Two years relatable experience as a lineman or working with fiber and/or in an operations role within the fiber/cable/telecom industry highly desirable
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; college or technical/vocational school a plus
  • Prior experience working in a team environment successfully to complete projects
